Why do we need teambuilding?

In a world where we have more personal communication systems than ever before and can be in touch with our offices and colleagues 24/7/365 we are worse now at building relationships with our co-workers - as a result of all this new communication! It actually acts as a barrier behind which we can shelter, much easier to send an email and hide behind that that meet someone face to face. And yet relationships are vital within any business community and this is where team building helps in breaking down those barriers.

What sort of teambuilding event is right for my team?

There are many ways to build teams from a simple drink in the pub through to painting pictures, doing a team Treasure Trail right along to the more extreme forms of team events such as white water rafting or orienteering. You should decide what is right for your group of people. But remember that intimidation is no longer a valid form of motivation! The average worker is concerned more that he/she will be shown up in front of their colleagues or not be able to support them in a team environment so choose an activity in which all team members can be a valid and useful part.

Where can I do teambuilding events?

At any hotel, sports club, pub in the UK and even in your own offices. Team building events are designed to be very flexible and as such can be reworked to fit your schedule and your location. In general team building comes to you rather than the other way round!

Can we involve some learning and facilitation in to the day?

Business Games are ideal for this sort of thing and combine a fun team building event with one or several learning messages. Communication is The Key is a classic example of this and the learning points about communication are clear to see to all participants. This isn't training but it's the point at which team building and training almost merge.

What can I do for a small group of 6 people?

Always trickier with the smaller groups but there are options to consider and the experience suggests that Film Making, Treasure Trail or Cerebration can work very well for such teams.

How do conference ice breakers work?

Used primarily as an energiser session first thing in the morning or just after lunch to get the group going. Options range from Body Percussion to juggling to all sorts of interesting ideas. Usually lasts 30-45 minutes.
